Transgender Day of Remembrance

Posted on Tue, Nov 17, 2009

Saturday November 21st, 6:30 p.m. Pride Community Center

Please join us as Pride Community Center will be holding a candlelight vigil to honor the 11th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. this Saturday November 21st at the community center at 3131 NW 13th Street in Gainesville. We will hear from City Commissioner Craig Lowe, Dr Jennifer Sager, Reverend Jim Merritt, and members of the transgender community.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998. In 2009 we will be lighting candles for 117 people killed in the last year.
